lesson plan

Hey!! I was just wondering how we should break up what lessons each of us should do.  I will do mathematics if that is okay and deal with prices and measurement.  Is that what it means by using a concept within our project?? Let me know what you think! :)

  1. You might want to wait for the math until Lesson Plan 2 ... that will be data collection. Just wanted you to know before you got started.

  2. I think that since we each have to create a different lesson we should all look at the concept map and each pick a concepts of interest within it and create a lesson. I can create the first lesson-"Teaching the students how to plan, organize, and run a bake sale." Since this is our main idea it would make sense to start teaching the kids all about a bake sale. (this would be an economics/business lesson) probably 2 or 3rd grade?? They students will also be learning about consumer and producers. This book has tons of vocabulary words that are important to learn for this topic. Who's Buying? Who's Selling?: Understanding Consumers and Producers (Lightning Bolt Books: Exploring Economics).

There are tons of books out there that relate to this topic. For instance, I can read students the book, The Bake Sale: Level 4 by Tony Hyland. It deals with the same idea we are trying to get to, having a school bake sale and helping raise money for a certain cause such as buying new library books for the school, etc. Or My Rows and Piles of Coins / by Tololwa Mollel, illustrated by E. B. Lewis. (book on saving for a cause).

This can be a start, let me know what everyone thinks.

    1. Oh and by the way, I haven't added the "plan, organize, and run" a bake sale on the concept map, but I will soon.

    2. I actually found the Michigan Grade Level Content Expectation I think works well with our topic.

      First Grade- ECONOMICS
      E1 Market Economy
Use fundamental principles and concepts of economics to understand economic activity in a market economy.

      Here is the list below:
1 – E1.0.1 Distinguish between producers and consumers of goods and services.
1 – E1.0.2 Describe ways in which families consume goods and services.
1 – E1.0.4 Describe reasons why people voluntarily trade.
1 – E1.0.5 Describe ways in which people earn money (e.g., providing goods and services to others, jobs).

    3. I was also thinking that during this lesson the students can research via the internet websites (hot list given) designs, creative flyers that they then will have to create for their bake sale as the advertising aspect of this project. This is PBL so I do believe that they need to create something with the information they researched, so I think this will be great.
